Today ComicsBeat reported that orders for Dynamite’s Vampirella #1 are on pace for 60,000 units. That’s a huge number for a book by a publisher outside of the big two. In fact that’s a big number even for the big two these days. That would make Vampirella #1 one of the top selling books for the month most likely. I think a book like Superman is usually in that range. It gives me flashbacks to the days when Vampirella would appear in Wizard Magazine’s top ten books, or hottest characters lists. Hopefully the book hits that number or exceeds it and those readers stick around for awhile.
Speaking of that, the article also confirms that Christopher Priest will remain on the book for a year or more. This is actually something I mentioned here back in April. So if you read this blog, you already knew that. Still, it’s good to get further confirmation of that fact because I would love to have a long running series again.
Dynamite CEO/Publisher Nick Barrucci had this to say:
“July is a huge month for us this year and lays the foundation for a strong rest of the year and going into 2020,” said Nick Barrucci, Dynamite CEO & Publisher. “For the anniversary, we went all out with Vampirella offerings to spoil the fans of the character both new and old. To have Christopher Priest helming the new ongoing series as the centerpiece is a dream come true. He’s more than welcome to stay on the title as long as he’d like.”
If you haven’t preordered the first (or second) issue with your comics shop, be sure to do it so we can make this launch as successful as possible!
