Review: Vampirella vs Reanimator #3

Here I go with another very belated review (sorry about that), this time for Vampirella vs Reanimator #3. This is the penultimate issue of this series, so this where we get the setup for the conclusion.

I think this is the best installment so far, both in art and writing. Cullen Bunn delivers some twists and turns that add some interest to the story. I think the first two issues were handicapped somewhat because we basically had to “get to know” Vampirella’s history on Drakulon, which is quite different here.

The basic gist of the issue is that Vampirella brings Mictlantcutli back to life so he can help Vampirella stop his wife who has teamed with the Reanimator. When he confronts Mrs. M, she explains that she wanted to wait to bring him back once she had created the perfect world. We then find out that she and the Reanimator have opened a portal to Drakulon. Mr. M accepts his wife’s explanation, but it’s unclear whether she is genuine or if it’s only a ruse. By the end, it appears the doctor realizes he’s made a mistake, which sets up a team-up with Vampirella in the next issue.

I also wanted to give a mention to the covers by Stuart Sayger, which I’ve picked up for each issue so far. His covers are all a bit different from the typical Vampirella cover, but I’ve been enjoying them quite a bit, maybe for that very reason.

The next issue should be out soon, so we’ll see where this ends up soon, and I’ll try to be more prompt with my review!
