Vampirella #12 inches us even closer to the conclusion of this story arc and fills in more holes in the story. My overall impression of the issue is similar to the last one. While it does start to fill in more of the story and move the plot along with a new twist, it lacks the excitement that many other issues have had. I’m sure that’s coming in the final two, so I’m looking forward to that.
This issue mostly deals with Vampirella’s mother, Lilith. We also learn a bit more about the young girl Katie and how she is connected to Lilith via her father. This is told in a flashback. We also get anoth flashback which tells the backstory of Lilith as narrated by Vampirella to Dr. Chary. The Lilith flashback is drawn by Giovanni Timpano while series regular Ergün Gündüz handles the rest of the art.
After the flashback the issue closes with the latest plot twist. This is a spoiler for the issue, so be warned! Dr. Chary is awakened to find his deceased wife in bed with him seemingly alive and well. This soon takes a turn for the worst as we find out it is really Lilith in disguise. She proceeds to kidnap him and fly out the window. It will be interesting to see how he fits in to Lilith’s plan.
Two issues to go after this one. I really can’t wait to see how this arc concludes. It’s been built up really well so I hope the ending is strong!
Didn’t read the spoiler but looking forward to catching this as a trade.
Btw, have you heard about Dynamite’s upcoming Vampirella/Project Superpowers/Red Sonja crossover event (to be written by Dan Abnett)?
There really hasn’t been much information released about that project that I’ve seen. I think a lot of things have been pushed back or shuffled around due to the pause in distribution. I do know I like Dan Abnett’s work. I’m wishing I was more familiar with Project Superpowers. I had started to read it one time but didn’t finish it out. I should probably pick that back up so I can get up to speed.
This was the short summary I got from Bleeding Cool a while back,

Dynamite Entertainment unveils two action-packed, ambitious crossovers set to debut this fall and winter. First, legendary writer Dan Abnett (Guardians of the Galaxy) unveils the biggest Dynamite series since Swords of Sorrow. Two parallel series starring Red Sonja, Vampirella, and the Project Superpowers characters will converge into something even bigger! ”
Project Superpowers is my other favourite Dynamite property. They’ve changed direction with it a few times, but the overall concept is so cool. And of course there’s the cover art by Alex Ross! I recommend the Omnibus editions (there are three volumes) if you want to give it a go.
